Privacy policy
Effective date: 3 November 2026
The short version
Miqra has no accounts, analytics or ads, and we do not sell data. Your notes, bookmarks and memorization progress stay on your phone. To deliver Quran text and audio, your phone has to contact some servers, and those servers see your IP address and what was requested. This policy explains that in full.
Who runs Miqra
Miqra is an independent app run by its developer, based in Japan. For any privacy question or request, write to support@getmiqra.com.
Miqra is an independent app and is not an official application of Quran Foundation. It uses the Quran Foundation APIs, in line with their terms, to get Quran content from the ecosystem behind Quran.com and QuranReflect. Miqra does not use Quran Foundation sign-in, and it receives no information from any Quran Foundation, Quran.com or QuranReflect account.
What stays on your phone
We never receive this information. It is stored only in the app on your device:
- Notes and bookmarks
- Memorization progress, reviews, goals and practice history
- Reading position, and reading and listening time
- Settings, and the place you choose for prayer times
- Downloaded audio, Mushaf pages and offline text
If you back up your phone, for example to iCloud or Google, that backup may include this information. Your backup provider’s terms apply to it.
What leaves your phone
| What | Who receives it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| IP address, and the surah, page or resource requested | Miqra’s server, through Render and Cloudflare | To deliver Quran text, Mushaf pages, tajweed, word audio and timings |
| IP address, and the file requested | Quran Foundation and Al Quran Cloud, and their file servers | To deliver text, audio and fonts |
| The words you search for, and IP address | Al Quran Cloud | To search the Quran text |
| Your email address, your message, and the app version, language and phone model in the draft, only if you email us | Miqra support, through Cloudflare and our mailbox provider | To reply to you |
| Your location, if you choose to use it | Apple or Google, through your phone’s place-name service | To show the name of your city |
Public Quran text, translations and audio are fetched without sending your notes, progress or any account details.
What we will never do
- Use your data to build advertising profiles
- Sell, rent or mine your personal information, or use it for anything beyond the features described here
- Use your notes or other personal content to train artificial intelligence models. We don’t receive them, and we would not do this without your separate, explicit consent
Location
Location is optional. You can choose a city by hand instead. If you allow it, Miqra uses your location while the app is in use to calculate prayer times on your phone. We do not receive your location, and Miqra does not use it in the background.
Religious information
Information about your religious practice is sensitive and deserves special protection. Miqra does not ask you to create a profile, and your notes and progress are never sent to us. Using a Quran app, and the requests it makes, could still suggest something about your beliefs. That is why we keep as little as we can about those requests, for as short a time as we can.
Data about religious beliefs is sensitive personal data under the GDPR and other privacy laws, and it has stronger legal protection. We do not collect it. If we ever wanted to, we would first ask for your explicit consent, separate from accepting our terms, through a clear action such as ticking an empty box.
Server logs
Miqra’s server keeps technical logs to keep the service running and protect it from abuse. They contain your IP address, the time, the address requested, which can include a surah or page, and the result. They are not linked to an account, because there are none. Our hosting provider, Render, deletes them after 7 to 30 days, depending on our plan. Cloudflare handles this traffic for us and may keep its own records under its policy.
Who else is involved
These companies and services process the information above. Each has its own policy:
- Render: hosts Miqra’s server
- Cloudflare: network and security for Miqra’s server, and forwarding email
- Quran Foundation: Quran data, audio and fonts
- Al Quran Cloud: Quran text, audio and search
- Apple or Google: your phone’s place-name service
- Our mailbox provider: receiving and storing email you send us
We use Render and Cloudflare under their data protection terms. Miqra’s use of Quran text follows Quran Foundation’s terms and Islamic content guidelines, and these companies only carry and store the data; they may not misuse Quran text.
How we protect your information
- In transit: connections between the app and Miqra’s server use TLS encryption.
- At rest: your notes and progress are on your phone and are protected by its own security, so keep a screen lock on. Miqra’s server holds no accounts, notes or progress.
- Access: access to Miqra’s server, logs and support email is limited to the people who run Miqra.
- Keys: we change the server’s secret keys at least every 12 months, and straight away if one may have been exposed.
If there is a security incident, we will start responding in less than 24 hours. Our security practices are aligned with Security Rule 6.9.
Where your information is processed
Some of these services may process information outside your country. Where information moves out of the EU, we rely on the safeguards in those companies’ data protection terms, such as the EU’s Standard Contractual Clauses. We are responsible for complying with the data protection and transfer laws that apply where our users are.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to More → Delete My Data. This removes your notes, bookmarks, progress, settings and downloads from your phone and cancels your prayer reminders. It cannot be undone. Deleting the app also removes this information from your phone, but not from any phone backup you have made.
Miqra has no accounts and uses no Quran Foundation sign-in, so there is no access token to revoke and no account to delete. If you use a Quran Foundation account with other apps, Quran Foundation documents how access is revoked.
Server logs cannot usually be linked to you, and they expire as described above. If you email us, we keep the conversation for up to 12 months, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. You can also ask us about your data at the address above: what we can delete will be permanently deleted from our live systems within 30 days of your request, and wiped from any backups we control within 90 days.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Most of your data is already on your phone, where you can read, change and delete it yourself. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to delete your personal data, to object to how it is used, and to complain to a data protection authority. You can withdraw location permission at any time in your phone’s settings.
Children
Miqra is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. It has no sign-up, ads or tracking, and it does not ask for a name, an age or contact details, so there is no sign-up to block. A child learning the Quran should use Miqra with a parent or guardian, who should send any email to us on the child’s behalf. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it and its effective date, and for a significant change we will also show a notice in the app. We will not start collecting new kinds of information without saying so here first.
